Pulse Output Water Meters

Choose this when your existing collector already counts compatible pulses.

  • Why choose it: keep pulse counting in your existing collection equipment.
  • Check first: pulse value, sensor circuit and starting total.

An electrical interface alone does not establish protocol compatibility. Output, voltage and wiring must match the selected meter and receiving device.

A Wired Meter Is One Part of the System

Keep meter-side wiring separate from the gateway connection to your management platform.

02 / COLLECTION

Collection Equipment

03 / MANAGEMENT

Management Platform

Collect readings, review usage and support billing through compatible software.

Match both ends of the connection. Pulse sensors need a matching input circuit. M-BUS / RS485 units need the correct bus and data protocol. Optical versions need their specified reading interface. A gateway’s mobile uplink is not a wireless interface inside the meter.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Interfaces, power and compatibility for wired-reading projects.

Discuss your requirements
How do pulse output and pulse-based direct read differ?

A pulse-output meter sends events for a receiving device to count. A pulse-based direct-read assembly adds a powered electronic unit, stores the configured starting reading and outputs the electronic total through M-BUS or RS485. It is still pulse-based sensing, not optical digit reading.

Does every RS485 meter work with our existing platform?

No. RS485 describes an electrical interface, not a complete data protocol. Send the collector model, protocol, baud rate, addressing and power requirements so the meter and collection equipment can be matched. M-BUS and RS485 versions also need different compatible connections.

What power supply does each option need?

Pulse-output requirements depend on the sensor and receiving circuit. The pulse-based direct-read version has a built-in power source. The optical design needs power during reading and, where fitted, valve operation. Voltage and wiring are specific to the selected assembly.

Which option needs an initial reading to be set?

The pulse-based direct-read unit requires its starting register to be set in software. A pulse-counting installation also needs the correct pulse value and starting total at the receiving device. Optical sensing reads the digit wheels; installation still requires addressing and communication checks for the selected system.

Can the meter communicate directly over 4G?

These are wired meter options. The meter connects to compatible collection equipment. A gateway can then use a supported mobile-network uplink to the management platform; that uplink does not make the meter itself a 4G device.

Is valve control included with optical direct read?

Not on every version. A dedicated valve-control optical meter is available in the manufacturer product images. Specify whether you need reading only or reading plus valve operation so the control interface, power and assembly can be matched.

What information helps you prepare a quotation?

Include the reading scheme, DN sizes, quantities, installation conditions, collector model and any existing protocol or software documentation. For replacements, add the installation length and connection details. We can then discuss matching meter hardware and technical documents.
